“The Talk”…

First, I am so thankful that I got a chance to know Adam before I approached him to have this informational talk.  He admitted that what he had to say to me would totally different if I were just walking in off the street.
So what did he say?
#1. It is his opinion that I have [...]

From personal to Personal?

Lately something interesting has been happening when I visit the gym.  Once during almost every visit, somebody mistakes me for a Personal Trainer.  They ask me for help with doing an exercise correctly (I tell them I’m not a trainer and try to find one to help them out); a guy today even insisted that [...]

Doppelganger

I must deny the rumor that today’s HIIT was achieved by alternating walking on the treadmill and actually running. We all know that I don’t run.  Especially in 1 minute spurts at 6 MPH.
Nope.
Not me.
Must have been my doppelganger.
Same doppelganger was later seen doing 7 chin-ups, then kickin her own butt during her strength training [...]

Broadly Speaking

This one is for all the women in the gym.
Yesterday, about 2/3rds of the way through my workout – after doing presses and flies and dips and generally torturing my upper body – I took an opportunity to step back up to the bar and do some more chin-ups.
Another 4.5, which considering what I’d done [...]

Four and a half

I did FOUR AND HALF unassisted pull-ups today in my first official attempt.
There are 2 female trainers at our gym.  Hally (who held the camera for the video) was inspired to try chin-ups.  She did 2, but I think I’ve inspired her to do more upper body work.
W00T!!!

Rhythm and balance

Woke up Thursday morning believing that I had a workout with Adam at 10 am; he woke up believing it was at 9 am.  Could have thrown the day all off.  Fortunately working with Guido had taught me early how to walk into the gym expecting time with a trainer and do a workout on [...]

Finding the Rhythm Again

I’m working with a new trainer, Adam.  During our first workout he asked what I needed to work on.  I was honest: I need stability work that gets me a good full-body workout and works my core at the same time.  I hate doing ab work.  And I want to do an unassisted pull-up on [...]

Reluctantly Embracing the Core

UPDATE: Yesterday during my sessions with my trainer, I hit a personal best!  On the Lat Pull-down I pulled 100# (five times!!).  For my unassisted pull-up I only need to pull 120#!
Testosterone Nation talks about “core” exercises, and includes videos to a number of exercises (most of which I will not be trying).
Now being a [...]

Where I Meet Mr. Smith (machine)

My new trainer, Adam, is definitely shaking things up a bit for me with my workouts.  (yes, this a very good thing!) Last week, I threw a mini temper tantrum because all we were doing was working with this cable system, stability ball and floor work and I was fiercely missing time spent in [...]

Friday Training

Thursday workouts with my new trainer seemed cursed.  Last week, I was sick and had to cancel; this week my car was in the shop.  I had to cancel.  We made up for yesterday with a killer workout today.
At our first workout, Adam asked me what I needed to work on.  Stability and core work, [...]
